Lip Service

MyOwnJudge - Lip Trends
The magazines and websites are ablaze with lip colors that are trending this season. The truth of the matter is that anything bright is on par with the trends. The standout colors shouldn't be too surprising, as they always peek their heads out as soon as the sun comes out to play for real. Case in point: orange and pink. A newcomer to the popular table is the lilac and purple lipstick. Let's blame it on the gals who take the stage in costumes your mother would never advise you wear. As far as the red - well that one never goes out of style. A bright red lip is a bad-mamajama all year, come rain sleet or snow (and unlike the postal service, it doesn't take days off).

I love the orange trend the most because a lot of the times it comes off as a red depending on what shade you get it in, and how you wear it, and it makes your teeth look brighter than your toothpaste ever could. Though I have favorite lipsticks for all of the shades, the hands down winner is the selection of colors by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics with their Lip Tars. The best thing with them is that you can even mix them to customize your own color.

p.s. I had to add a celebrity example in a variety of skin tones because I don't want to hear anyone say the color doesn't look good on their skin. Retire that mindset!

Which color tickles your fancy the most?

Rosie! ... err Pink!

MyOwnJudgeThe release of Pink's new video for Raise Your Glass(remember my anticipation?) has been refreshing. Common to the previous videos she did, where she is tackling popular topics, people, and institutions, she does it again. This time, apart from being the working man fighting sumo style against the corporate world, she is also a vengeful bull and Rosie the Riveter. The last character may fit into the scheme of things, but no one really put their finger on the similarities or the singer's ability to pull of the role so well (at least in looks).

Raise Your Glass

Change is going to come, right? Not so much. Sure, cassettes gave way to cds, and cds somewhat bowed out to digital downloads. Music videos gave way to reality television and the excitement waned. 2010 must have had a a refreshing Red Bull, because music videos are cool again. Release dates are honored like movie releases, and previews are slow and musical torture. First we had Katy Perry's California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg) and then Kanye took over the game with his mini movies, most recently Runaway.

Today Pink joins the masses and has us waiting for her the video to her new hit single Raise Your Glass (Explicit Version). In her interview with Access Hollywood she showed clips of herself sumo wrestling, comparing her character to the working man and her opponent to Wall Street.

Check out her past videos as we wait for the new one:

Are you back to being excited? Remember the times? Let me know!

Last of the Six

As promised, here are the last of the photos of the six NOTDs from the Zoya Flash color collection. The colors are bright summery shades that make me think 'this is what the nail polish version of a bag of Skittles would look like.' The shades just evoke happiness.

Zoya Nail Polish - Dana Zoya Nail Polish - Dana

Dana is a grown up bubble gum pink. It's safe enough for work and flashy enough for the bright color hungry fashionista inside of you.

Zoya Nail Polish - Dana

Zoya Nail Polish - Maura Zoya Nail Polish - Maura

Maura is a bright red that has two great features: it doesn't stain your fingers and it goes on creamy with no streaks.

Zoya Nail Polish - Maura

All of the polishes in this collection are amazingly smooth and need two coats to look exactly like the bottle promises it will. That's really no surprise though, because Zoya is notorious for delivering on their promises.

Zoya Flash NOTD

As promised, here are two of six NOTDs from the Zoya Flash color collection. This was during a time of my nails requiring mending so I used falsies to swatch colors. I'm loving the collection as a whole. My only qualm being that a top coat is necessary to maintain the shine. It doesn't dry matte, but it doesn't dry shiny either. Then again, almost everyone uses top coats anyhoo, so what's the problem, right?

Zoya Nail Polish - Jancyn Zoya Nail Polish - Jancyn

Jancyn my favorite shade of tangerine orange. Creamy and mostly opaque in one coat, but optimally two coats are necessary. Flash on right and none on left.

Zoya Nail Polish - Jancyn

Zoya Nail Polish - Jolene Zoya Nail Polish - Jolene

Jolene is a cute bubble gum pink that is unlike any pink shade I've ever had. It's also a darn good true to bottle color match.

ORLY nails

Continuing my nail craze, I have grouped together some polishes with the same company. The ones today are from ORLY. These creams are always kind to your nails and define the word cream. A lot of the time they need a bit of extra maintenance, as they require more coats than usual, but all is forgiven. These polishes are perfect for summer and lighthearted manis, and the darker colors get heavier in consistency as if they know that you'll be wearing them when the weather drops and will be less patient with coats.

ORLY Enchanted Forest
This is a green shade I am falling madly in love with. It's like a mudy emerald green and applies like a dream. The color seems to be the type that is the perfect equation for happily ever after with anyone's nails, and I'm glad this time they were mine. On the right is a matte version (using China Glaze Matte Magic top coat).

Photobucket

ORLY Sol Cabana
A very cute cream sorbet-ish orange. The color itself looks delicate and soft right? Though it has a bit of a sheer coverage issue, I think it works just right. Maybe even with a white puffy jacket in the middle of the slopes?

Photobucket Photobucket

ORLY OMG
This peachy pink is of course hard to photograph. All the pinks in my life refuse to be photographed. Rowdy ladies. The actual color of OMG is somewhere between the left (no flash) and the right (with flash). Barely lets your nail shine through and conveys the super sweet with a side of sexy. (Hope that makes sense)

I tried to Konad it up with the black Konad polish, and Color Club in Revvolution for the paint splat (don't like how it came out).

It was hard as rocks to get the lace like pattern apply evenly on the nail. I'm still undecided if I approve. Like it?

What colors do you have on your digits? What colors should I wear next?

October is the month of Pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, in case y'all haven't realized just yet. This is a subject very close to my heart. While I was in high school, a friend started a school group that raised funds and awareness for cancer, and when I took over as president, for other causes as well.

Apart from being a female and wanting for everyone to have a chance for good health and survival, I know that the women in our lives are super duper important. John Mayer wrote a song called Daughters, where he sings about fathers and mothers being good to their daughters, because one day, they'll be mothers too. Don't get me wrong, I love men as well, but in an almost all female family, you start to get a little dizzy with the female power.

Please take a chance this month to speak to your doctor about check-ups and tests, or in the least do a self check on yourself. Remember to look beyond just your chest to check for abnormalities. You may think that looking for something is a bad omen because it's as though you are inviting bad things to happen, but really, this is to better empower you to know when change happens, and to fix it quickly. Take a look at these sites for some more info: BreastCancer.org & the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. An educated woman is a healthier woman! A healthy & happy woman contributes to a happy & healthy family! Men - remember that you are not exempt from this and take care of yourself as well!

If you care to do a little helpful shopping this month though, there are various companies banding together with charities for the cause, so your money will always be well spent. Take a looksee through some of these, and let me know if you come across others that I forget to cover!

ChinaGlaze is out with a trio of pretty pinks called Care in Colour to help support the cause. Click over to Head2Toe Beauty for yours! I have ordered a set for myself, so stay tuned for swatches as well!

PhotobucketPhilosophy has Shower (gel) For The Cure (everybody has to shower... right?) benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund
"shower for the cure is philosophy's pink ribbon shower gel - a creamy all-in-one formula that can be used as a shampoo, shower gel or bubble bath. this long-time philosophy favorite contains a touch of milk proteins and fruit essences to provide a delightful experience for your senses. shower for the cure represents the spirit of every woman and 100% of philosophy's net proceeds from the sale of shower for the cure will be donated to the Women's Cancer Research Fund. please note that this product is non-refundable. the memorable scent and poem on the pink ribbon shower gel was inspired by the unforgettable charity event, one of hollywood's most beloved occasions which is held every spring and is chaired by Rita Wilson and Kate Capshaw."

Photobucket Purple Lab (famously of Huge Lips, Skinny Hips) has a lip gloss that is SWAC (Sealed With A Cure).
"A delicious shimmering Pale Pink with Gold Flecks! PurpleLab has partnered with The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation to create a special lip gloss, SWAC ("Sealed With a Cure"), of which some of the proceeds will go to the charity. The gloss has been designed to boost "beauty, health, and confidence" while raising money for breast cancer research.

The gloss is: haraben-free, has health boosting and immune system enhancing ingredients including Mangosteens Echinacea, scented with uplifting Vanilla, has real gold flecks, and enriched with anti-aging peptides!"
Keep checking back here for more details on the best ways to support causes & your beauty counter as well! :) But if y'all know something I don't? You know what to do!

Back to Mac/Hot Pink

I was green and I did my Back to MAC! What did I get? I got the Amplified Lipparoo in Impassioned. It's super bright, and super creamy, and I love it! Might make me wear lipstick regularly? We'll see.

The bright colors got to my head and got me acting all silly. Tell me if you'd rather not witness that again :)

and of course an inspiration board!
