Rock Star Mani

As promised (although a little while back), the Revlon out of this world colors have made it to my nails. After a long awaited pause for my nails to quit their whining and regain a healthy look, I can finally wear colors and show you (otherwise, I just wear twenty colors at a time and refrain from photographs!). I have been trying to change them up every few days, because a major clean of the house is in order, and every time I seem to take on that project, I say farewell to my nails.

Rock is a very attractive creamy purple. Purples in a bright consistency without any false shimmer to it (you know - when the bottle looks purple, but on the nail it looks more metallic?) are the best polishes to own. A natural purple is also hard to achieve, as many just get darker and look more vampy unless in direct sunlight.

Revlon's Matte Suede Collection

MyOwnJudge - Revlon Matte Suede CollectionDrugstores are slowly turning into temptation centers for me. I have taken to banning myself from most department stores and beauty spots like Sephora as I deal with this financial slump I'm in right now, so I limit myself to drugstores. They must've caught on to the plan because what used to be one or two knick knacks that I had to buy, have become bag fulls.

As I walked into Walgreen's for a snack yesterday, I found myself face to face with the new Revlon Matte Suede polish collection. They had new lipsticks out as well, but I can only be so bad in one day!
MyOwnJudge - Revlon Matte Suede CollectionThe main photo is the collection, applied in two coats and taken with flash. The photo to the left is without flash. Both photos are accurate representations of the colors depending on what kind of light you have shining on your digits.

Upon originally seeing the collection, I was trying to decide if the matte polish craze was a movement that was staying or if it was a departing train. Any polish can now become a matte polish with the correct matte coat. Something about these colors persuaded me though.

MyOwnJudge - Revlon Matte Suede Collection

The four color collection contains three autumn/winter appropriate shades with a snowy white to complete the set. The colors are vibrant and are almost dead on replicas of gem stones. Emerald City reminded me of Zoya's Veruschuka from the MatteVelvet Collection. Purple and green shades seem to warrant the most attention when new sets come out.

All the colors have an interesting shimmer to it, one that I can't say has been identically done before. As Scrangie said, the collection doesn't come off as that matte. I found that when you apply one coat, the colors are more matte than if you use two to three coats. The runner up favorite was Fire Fox, have you seen a shimmery, fiery, red-orange like this before?! Though not necessarily a favorite, Ruby Ribbon had an impressive finish, and after two coats Powder Puff made me frown.

The white is a little bit out of place and I had to narrate a winter story with Christmas trees, Santa, Cranberries and snow to agree that it was necessary. White is a color that no matte collection should ever have again. Really. The white was the weakest link, but I must have been remiss in the three coat memo, because Ali from Ali's Nail News got it, and the photos make it look purchase worthy.

Revlon's Starry Galaxies

Revlon Nail Polish

Just because it's fashion week, doesn't mean we forget about beauty and all the things that remain on the pages of MOJ. Though my nails have been admittedly bare and short throughout the shows (I had to chop all my nails off to prevent 'bored biting'), I have been scouring drugstores for polishes that will grace my digits as soon as the nails grow back out.

I found some Revlon polish sure to make the heart beat faster. Look at all these glitters!! The best of all is definitely the tie in out of this world name for each color.

Review: Revlon Double Twist Mascara

Hey kiddies! As part of the "VIPretty" at PrettyCity.com, I get to review products for the site. Since I couldn't really upload photos there, I wanted to share what I had for you guys here. You can check out my review by clicking over here. I got to review the Revlon Double Twist mascara and was surprised by what I got.

This is what the hubub is about. The innovative brush. But did it deliver?

As I mentioned in my review on PrettyCity.com, this mascara committed the epic fail with the packaging on the inside of the tube. If you take a close look at your mascara, you will see that the inside tapers in a bit so that when you pull the wand out, it kind of squeezes the remained of product away to allow optimal application.

The packaging here has it so that there are little spikes in a circle, which in thought are a good idea, but in reality they don't take off enough extra product and the wand ends up being gloppy and overstuffed with product. Just one swipe on the eyes makes for a terrible clump of a time.

I wanted to compare the Revlon Double Twist mascara to my all time fave, Chanel Inimitable mascara. Yes Chanel is a pricey bugger, but it has yet to fail me. It gives me a soft and even application that's perfect for anywhere.

Packaging: 1 out of 5
Price: 4 out of 5 ($8.99 - lots of BOGO)
Quality: 3 out of 5
Overall: 2 out of 5

This is what the wands look like when pulled out of the tube as if for regular application:

I had to play around with the lighting to show the globs of mascara on the Revlon wand. See it? You can't even discern a single fragment - it all looks like one... thing. None of the double twist technology even has a chance to prove itself because there is a thicker than thick layer of mascara paste stuck on it.

I think this was a major mistake in the packaging, and that the original idea of the mascara was just the innovation in the brush. The double twist has different bristles alternating on the wand. Does it work? Not with this tube. I will revisit this mascara with a different tube and see if the wand fares any better there.

Maybe if Revlon revises the packaging of the mascara with a different opening, it will become a hit. Otherwise, I'd say purchase at your own risk.

Have you tried this for yourself?

Way Overdue Contest Result!

So Miss B from Clumps of Mascara (love the site!) ran a contest about childhood memories and I was a runner up. My goodie package came in the mail last week and I couldn't have been more excited. The best part? It had Maybelline Stiletto Lash which I was THIS close to purchasing at CVS and finally exhibited some self restraint. Good thing too!

She wrote DO NOT LEAVE AT DOOR just like I asked! (I live on the first floor and my neighbors can be thieves!)

Maybelline Stiletto Lash Mascara
N.Y.C. Lip Gloss
Revlon Nails
ELF shadow applicators

She had the cutest note card and business card attached. Absolutely made my day.
